The Cutting Cafe; ICS #22

Do you see that "blinkie" to the right? Yes, I am now on the Design Team for Regina's "The Cutting Cafe." I am absolutely thrilled and honored to be among so many talented ladies on the Design Team. So be prepared, you are going to see a lot of digital stamps from The Cutting Cafe on my cards! I have been using them for a while now and have made many card sets for family, friends, etc. but have not posted them. Well, that is going to change! If you have never gone to see what The Cutting Cafe is all about, now is your chance to start doing some really fun stuff!

Patterned Papers: Creative Imaginations; Papertrey Ink (Itty Bitty Stars); Sentiment: The Cutting Cafe; Ribbon; Machine Stitching.

I used another Cutting Cafe sentiment on this card that I created using Dawn's Inspirational Card Sketches! Can you tell I am loving her sketches since I work with them each and every week?

Patterned Papers: DCWV (Nana's Nursery); Sentiment: The Cutting Cafe; Butterfly Punch: Martha Stewart; Ribbon; Machine Stitching.
Health Update: I have officially "graduated" from Outpatient Therapy!!!! For those who don't know here is what happened: I spent 7 weeks in the hospital with pneumonia that got into my bloodstream (November 14, 2008 - January 3, 2009.) A tracheotomy was done, I was given many, many steroids and came very close to not being here today. Once I got better (a true miracle,) I had to have therapy for a couple of weeks and after getting home, I had to continue it on an outpatient basis. Now, I still walk 3 times a week at our mall. So.....recovery is going well! WOOHOO!

ICS #21; BBTB; SC - S #2

The 2 photos below are of Madison (4) and her Grandma (me) having a great time together! I can't help it.....when good photos are taken of my Grandgirls, I just have to share. This old Grandma is absolutely delighted whenever she is around our Grandgirls. Can you tell?

Once again, Dawn at Inspirational Card Sketches has a sketch of many layers. Boy, do I love those! Her DT created so many fun card samples. They always inspire me! Check out her prize for this week! Yummy!

Patterned Papers: 3 Bugs in a Rug; Papertrey Ink; Ribbon; Machine Stitching.

Regina at Bitten By the Bug challenged us to use the Paper Doll Dress Up cartridge to create a card using the car accessory (Page 32 - 3".) I also used the Celebrations cartridge to make the blackout balloons (Page 94 - 2 1/4".) Creating this card was so much fun!!!!!! Isn't this the cutest car? I also used some scraps I had to create this card so it qualifies for my Self Challenge - Scraps.

Patterned Papers: Imaginisce, Papertrey Ink; "Happy Birthday:" The Cutting Cafe; Ribbon; Brads.

ICS #20; SC-S #1

A special note: At 5:56 PM on June 12, 1968, Dwain and I became "Mom and Dad" for the first time. We welcomed our son, Jim, on that day! Happy 41st Birthday, Jim! You are so dearly loved!

Here is my entry for Dawn's Inspiration Card Sketches for this week! I loved the layers presented with the sketch! Her DT just "rocked" the sketch! Great job, Ladies!

This is the inside of the card:

Papers: Creative Imaginations, Papertry Ink (Itty Bitty Stars); Digital stamps from The Cutting Cafe; Circut Die Cut: Wild Card Cartridge (Page 59, Size 6); Gingham Ribbon; Brad and Machine Stitching.

As I was doing some organizing in Studio G, I realized just how many scraps of "this" and scraps of "that" I own. I am hoping to make a card each week using my scraps following Becky Fleck's Card Maps. I printed off several years worth of sketches and I will randomly choose one or two to use each week. This card is from June 2009 Card Maps and is the last sketch shown.

Self Challenge - Scraps #1:

Scrap Papers: WRMK (Tiffanys), Papertrey Ink (Itty Bitty Dots); Digital Stamp: The Cutting Cafe; Scrap Ribbon; Scallop Punches: 1 1/2, 2, 2 1/2; Button: Dress It Up; Machine Stitching.

ICS #19; BBTB, Paige and Grandma

A special "CONGRATULATIONS" to our University of Washington Women's Softball Team who won the National Championship last night! What a thriller -- my shoulder and back just ache from helping our Danielle Lawrie pitch to the Florida Gators. LOL!!!! Our daughter, Brenda, played softball so that sport is very dear to our hearts.

I just could not help myself today....I had to put this photo on of me with our Grandgirl, Paige! She is our "brown-eyed girl" and is absolutely adorable! Can you tell that this Grandma loves her? You betcha!

Once again, Dawn, at Inspirational Card Sketches, has a fabulous sketch for this week. What I like about her sketches is what she writes each week: "Remember you can rotate, flip, stretch or anything your hearts desires with the sketch. Just have fun with it." Now that makes doing her sketches so much fun!!!!!

Papers: Basic Grey (Marrakech); Papertry Ink (Itty Bitty Dots)
Rubon: 7 Gypsies
Scallop Square Punch and Edge Punch: Martha Stewart

Machine Stitching

Regina at Bitten By the Bug challenged us to use the mushroom from the Tinkerbell cartridge to make a card. I must say that of all the cards I have made this one was the most fun!

2S4Y (Kazan's #27); ICS #18; Hubble

Dwain and I had a great time with our Grandgirls this last week! The drive over to Seattle was perfection, although there was a lot of traffic. The mountains were so very beautiful! Our Grandgirl, Angelina (7) really cracked us up when we played "Old Maid" with her. You should have seen her face when she drew the Old Maid! It was hilarious!

Here is my entry at 2Sketches4You for this week! I always, I mean "always" enjoy working on Kazan and Laura's sketches when time permits. They sure do inspire me!

Papers: Basic Grey (Wisteria); Papertrey Ink (Itty Bitty Dots)
Rubon: Basic Grey
Oval Ornament: Melissa Frances
Ribbon
Flowers: Michaels (in the wedding section)
Cricut Die Cut: Graphically Speaking (Page 60)

Here is my entry in this week's Inspirational Card Sketches! Dawn always has the most outstanding sketches and her prize this week is "out of this world!"

Papers and Chipboard: Me and My Big Ideas (Destination Paradise)
Ribbon
Machine Stitching

Do you remember the following photo that I posted a long time ago? This was a photo sent to me from my High School (Class of 1963) friend, Patty, who works for NASA. She has been with them since the Apollo "to the moon days" and works with the training of the astronauts and the Space Station. She refers to herself as "LLP"......Launch Pad Patty. This photo is of the two Shuttles all set for a previous launch to repair the Hubble Telescope -- the mission was cancelled for a while. In the front you can the Shuttle that lifted off for repairs for the Hubble and in the back is the one that was going to take off in case there were problems to bring the Astronauts back to earth. Thank God, they did not need that one!!!! You can also see a rainbow in the sky! After this photo is a recent message she sent to me about the Hubble mission and a photo taken by NASA. Enjoy!

"It was actually one of the more interesting flights that I have been involved with in a long time. Shows you what determination and the dedication of a crew will get us. The mission kept getting delayed because it was not going to Station and we needed to get the major part of the Station built before we could fix the Hubble. I am going to enclose a photo of two of the Astros working inside the Hubble. Pretty amazing. Most don’t know that we had a potentially catastrophic incident during this mission. One of the Astros tore his glove on something….we don’t know how yet. These gloves have several layers of protection for the crew for obvious reasons. The last layer of protection is a bladder made out of a material that NASA developed. The glove was torn down to this level. Had the tear broken this bladder the crewman would have perished within a few seconds. Everyone knows that space is a dangerous environment….most don’t realize how dangerous it really is. These were newly designed gloves….looks like it is back to the ol’ drawing board on this design.

On a lighter note, the commander of this mission was Scott “Scooter” Altman. He was actually the pilot on the movie “Top Gun” that did the flying for Tom Cruise. I was talking to Scooter the other day before he left for quarantine and he asked me if I liked the sequence where he flew his plane upside down inches above the Russian MIG and gave the Russian the “finger”. He said, “that was my finger”. He is quite a guy….nice, polite, but he was so excited that he got to do that movie because he had always wanted to do all the outrageous things like a flyby to a control tower which was definitely a no-no in the Navy. It could have cost him his commission in real-life, but he got to do this in the movie. He had the strangest grin on his face when he was telling me this. Boys will be boys I guess.
I hope this finds all of you well.
Keep looking up! LLP"

BBTB, ICS #17

What does a person do when she is told that she has to walk several days a week? Dwain and I walk at our local mall and how does a person not get so "bored" doing it? Well, I "pretend!" I pretend with "pretend money" as we walk by shops and "pretend" I am buying things: a bag at Coach, a pearl necklace at Ben Bridge, some clothes at just about anywhere, etc! Since I am pretending, I always buy those clothes in size 2!!!!! LOL! Here's wishing you a wonderful week and a fun-filled weekend!

At Bitten by the Bug, Regina challenged us to create using the Storybook Cartridge Frame! I have fallen "in love" with this frame and I am so pleased with this card! Thank you, Regina, for being my mentor in using my Cricut!

Papers: Heidi Grace Designs (Forever Love); SEI
Edge Punch: Martha Stewart
Cricut Die Cut: Storybook (Page 75, Size: 3 1/2)
Ribbon

This is my entry for Inspirational Card Sketches for this week! Dawn has another great sketch and a fabulous prize! Check it out!

Papers: WRMK (Tiffanys); Papertrey Ink (Bitty Dot Basics -- I love these papers!)
Rhinestone Flower: Kaisercraft

We are off to girl-sit our sweet Grandgirls, Madison (3) and Paige (1 1/2) and then we are driving through the Cascade Mountains (always so beautiful) to Seattle to spend some time with our son, Jim, and our Grandgirl, Angelina (7)! Lots of hugs and kisses are coming our way! WOOHOO! Will post again sometime next week!

ICS #16 and a Self-Challenge

I challenged myself this week to use Dawn's Inspirational Card Sketches to get out of a rut! As I looked at my past creations, I noticed that I tend to use "one company" papers, embellishments, etc. Sure that makes it easy to make a card but where is the challenge in doing that? So this card uses several different elements from different companies. I know with the list at the end of this post, it does not look like much but for me, it is a beginning! Usually I can get 2 cards done each week but there is only 1 this week because "getting out of a rut" is a slow process for this old Grandma! LOL!!!!!

Patterned Papers: Doodlebug Design, Papertrey Ink (Bitty Dot Basics)
Basic Grey: White Rubon
Martha Stewart: White Tag
Die Cuts With A View: "LOVE" Chipboard
Ribbon: Strano
Machine Stitching

ICS #15, CPS #114, Health Update

My Sweet Friend, Dawn, has the greatest sketches at Inspirational Card Sketches and her prize for this week is some lovely crocheted flowers. Also she is still accepting cards for her new DT Call! Check it out! For this card, I used all 3 Bugs In a Rug Papers (just can't resist these colors -- Butterfly Kisses,) Cricut Cartridge (Alphalicious, Page 119, 3" size,) Ribbon, Brads and Machine Stitching.

I loved working with the sketch from Card Positioning Systems this week! It has been a while since I participated. In creating this card, I used: Basic Grey Papers (Offbeat,) Cricut Cartridge (Graphically Speaking; Page 57; 3" size) making the Butterfly using SEI Linen and Velvet Papers, Kaisercraft Pearls, Ribbon and Machine Stitching.

Health Update: Everything, so far, is going well since coming home from the hospital. I am gradually getting better and better each day. Dwain and I walk 3 times a week at our mall and I still go to Outpatient Physical Therapy once a week. Jesse (my PT) is even having me do the treadmill -- walking backwards no less and from side to side. He is really working on me regaining my balance.

Because of all the steroids that were given to me to save my life, I am now Diabetic. I was borderline when I went into the hospital and the drugs just put me over to the other side. We have been working with a Diabetes Counselor and I am now off the shot and pill. Isn't that wonderful? I am, so far, able to control my Diabetes with diet. I still test my blood sugar 2 times a day. So far, so good on everything! WOOHOO!
Thank you all for your visits and leaving me so many wonderful comments! You all are so very dear to me!

ICS #14, BBTB, FAB 5!

This last Sunday, I was honored, thrilled and so, so surprised to see my name on the FAB 5 list over at 2Sketches4You! A big "Thank You" goes to Laura, Kazan and the DT for this very special recognition! You all are the very best!!!!! I have been walking around these days with a big, old smile on my face!

A story for you: Whenever I see FAB 5 at 2Sketches4You, I think of my first year of college in New York. The year was 1963 and my roomie, Jocelyn, was from Liverpool, England. One day, she played a song (a 45 record) for me called, "A Hard Day's Night" by a British group called, The Beatles! She had gone to see them at the Cavern Club in Liverpool. I tried to tell her that over here, Elvis was the "King" and hinted that maybe this group, although they were good, would not really make it here. Boy, was I wrong!!!! I spent the rest of the year apologizing for my remarks. LOL!!!!!!

Here is my entry for Inspirational Card Sketches! Dawn always has the best sketches each week. I so enjoy doing them! To create this card, I used a kit from SweetArts Paperie: Imaginisce Papers and Rubons, Bo Bunny Flowers, Button Brad, Martha Stewart punch and Machine Stitching.

Here is my entry for Bitten By The Bug for this week. Regina challenged us to use a Border cut from the Doodlecharms Cartridge. Using DCWV Papers (The Green Stack,) a Ribbon from Strano, Machine Stitching and some Bo Bunny Brads, I chose the Tag Border on page 130 at 1 1/2 inches. Note: BBTB is also having a Blog Hop this week; boy, that is so fun!!!!!

2S4Y (Laura's # 24), ICS #13, Happy Birthday, Madison!

For Laura's sketch this week at 2 Sketches 4 You, I went with blue and orange again! I just love this color combo! I used My Mind's Eye (Papers, Flower and Tag,) Ribbon, Button (JoAnns,) Basic Grey rubon, Machine Stitching and Martha Stewart Punch. Note: Laura and Kazan are having a DT Call! Check it out here!

This is my entry in Dawn's Inspirational Card Sketches this week! I recently purchase the Cricut Cartridge "Wild Card," and I am absolutely thrilled with it! This was my first project using it -- it not only cuts the card out but in addition the envelope to go with the card! WOOHOO! I used 3 Bugs in a Rug (Summer) Papers, Felt Flowers and Basic Grey rubons. NOTE: Dawn is having a DT Call! Check it out here!

On April 21, our Grandgirl, Madison turned 4! Here she is with her Grandad and her baby sister, Paige, in front of our home. The room in the front with the blind partially open is my craftroom: I call it "Studio G!"

ICS #12, BBTB and a Happy Face!

We live in the Wine Country of Washington state so our weather is perfect for not only grapevines but for Cherry and Apple trees. During our trips over to girlsit our Grandgirls, we are greeted with the most beautiful blossoms on the trees! It is wonderful to know that in June, we will be able to purchase cherries (Bing and Rainier) and in October, it will be apples. This is such a wonderful place to live!

Here is my entry for this week for Inspiration Card Sketches. I used Dawn's fabulous sketch to create a Mother's Day card for my dear, sweet Daughter! Each year since she became a Mother, I have sent her a Mother's Day card. I want her to know how much I love how she is raising our Grandgirls and how special she is to me! I used "Me and My Big Ideas" paper and accents, Kaisercraft rubon, Ribbon and Machine Stitching.

This week at Bitten By the Bug, Regina challenged us to use the Cricut Cartridge--Graphically Speaking--to create a card using the image "24/7." How cool is this? I love when I can use opposites on the Color Wheel -- in this case it is blue and orange. I used Basic Grey's "Marrakech," Bo Bunny, Creative Imaginations papers, the scallop circle die cuts from the same Cartridge, Kaisercraft rubon, ribbon, and Machine Stitching.

NOTE: While I was transferring the rubon, it slipped on me! So instead of "you" being just right, I created a "Happy Face." Talk about a happy goof! LOL!

ICS #11 and a Layout

Lots to do and so little time these days! Here is my entry at Dawn's Inspirational Card Sketches this week. For this card and the layout, I used a charming kit from SweetArts Paperie -- loads of Bo Bunny (Alissa), pretty satin ribbon and rubons that I have absolutely fallen in love with lately. For this card, I also used "Pooh and Friends" Cricut Cartridge for the frame, pearls and an old, old Bo Bunny rubon that was not in the kit.

The photos are piling up so I decided to go back to my "roots" and do some scrapping! This is my Grandgirl, Paige, with her old Grandma (moi!) watching a movie before bedtime and sharing a bowl of popcorn. Besides the Bo Bunny papers, I used a flower that I picked up along the way somewhere, buttons and song lyrics from Van Morrison ("Brown Eyed Girl.") My handwriting has not been the same since my stay in the hospital; my hands still shake but I do try and do some journaling on my layouts.

Thank you all for your emails and comments recently! I truly appreciate them so much!

ICS #10, BBTB Challenge and A PRIZE!!!!!!

Imagine going to the ICS site and seeing my name as a winner of the prize for last week! A gift certificate to Savvy n Sassy! RIBBON!!!!! Woohoo! With all that has been going on lately, this WIN certainly warmed my heart and I spent the day walking around with a big, ole smile on my face! Thank you, Dawn....you really made my day!

Dawn at Inspirational Card Sketches has a wonderful, multi-layered sketch this week and another FABULOUS prize! I used Imaginisce papers, Cricut Die Cut (Storybook), Ribbon and Machine Stitching.

Seven years ago when our Grandgirl, Angelina, was born, I began sending each of our Grandgirls a handmade card for each Holiday in addition to their birthdays. The only time I missed sending cards was when I was in the hospital. Here is my card for Easter; I will be making 3 of these and this one is going to Angelina. Our other Grandgirls get a "simpler version" since Madison (almost 4) wants to take my cards apart to study how they are put together and Paige (18 months) wants to eat hers. LOL! I try to use embellies that are "little-one friendly."

Regina at Bitten By The Bug challenged us to use the Doodlecharms cartridge for the Cricut to create this cute, cute bunny. I used 3 Bugs in a Rug papers, Ribbon, Prima flowers, Brown Pigma Pen and MM brads.

Oh, I almost forgot.....if you love kits like I do, I have the "bestest" place to check out. I ordered and received the April kit from SweetArts Paperie and I am absolutely delighted. Everything was presented so beautifully from the wrapping to the candy to the ribbon to the flower -- and that was just on the outside. The kit itself is so very pretty: Bo Bunny papers and embellies, ribbons, flowers and a printable stamp set from Regina at The Cutting Cafe. In addition to the kit, you can go over to the Cutting Cafe and pick out 2 additional stamp sets for free! What a deal!!!!! My friend, Sharon Caudle, is the Guest DT for this month and her work using the kit is BEAUTIFUL! If you have never gone to her site....go and see her work; it will amaze you!!!!!

2S4Y (Kazan #22), ICS #8, Sign of Spring!

Dwain and I live in a retirement community of individual houses based on the old Craftsman style. We love it here and so enjoyed working with our builder to create our house just like we wanted. One reason that we chose this community was that all yard work is taken care of along with many other amenities. Yesterday, I heard "mowing" and what a delightful sound it was! With my illness last winter and the stress we are going through right now, I never thought that the sound of a lawnmower would touch my heart so much and just make me "giddy with glee" --- Spring is on its way! How delightful!

I so enjoy the challenge that 2S4Y offers each week! Here is my card using Scenic Route papers; Prima flowers; Deja Views "Wonderful Words" rub-on, Bazzill scallop accent, Buttons and Machine Stitching.

This is my tag following the divine sketch over at Inspirational Card Sketches using SEI (Poppy) paper, Cricut (Tags, Bags, Boxes and More), Ribbon, JoAnns iron-ons, Melissa Frances rub-on and Machine Stitching. I really don't have any idea why I don't create more tags -- this was so much fun!!!!!

Inspirational Card Sketches #7

I want to thank all of you for your kinds words of encouragement as Dwain and I help out our beloved child. We found out yesterday that we will be needed more than we anticipated and that is okay. Today is one day that we have at home and I decided that I had to follow my friend, Joan's advice, and be creative during this time of stress to take my mind off what is going on in our lives! Thank you, Joan!

To explain about this card, I need to tell you all a little something -- I LOVE KITS!!!! Whenever I am feeling non-mojoed or stressed like I am now, I grab a kit and work on it just so I don't have to think too much. I just follow the instructions of the kit and "presto" I have something pretty. The greeting card kit that I used to make this card is from Basic Grey (Porcelain). Of course, I never stick completely to the "script" (I would make a terrible actress) and tend to "adlib," and I change things around. The card base, the inner scalloped cutout, the butterfly, the rub on and the strip are from the kit. I added the ribbon, the square with the circles on the side, Prima Flowers, pearls and machine stitching. I just could not let a week go by without participating in Inspirational Card Sketches, Dawn!

Here is my entry for ICS #7:

2 Sketches 4 You (Laura's Sketch # 21)

Just one card this week. When you have family (even when your children are in their 30's and 40's) as a Mom and Dad, you never ever stop worrying about them, sharing in the good days and the low ones. Right now, one of our children is experiencing a rough time and we are doing what we can to help out. Everything takes a back seat to trying to get things back to normal for your child so we will be doing that for now and creating will have to wait for a while. I am hoping to keep doing something each week...we shall see. Just know that I am doing just fine. I have always felt that God did not take me while I was in the hospital because my "mission" on this earth has not been completed. I am so grateful that I am here to be able to help out and give comfort to my precious, precious child. Thank you for all your visits and your very special comments! You all have a very special place in my heart!

Here is my entry for 2S4Y this week. I used "Me and My Big Ideas" paper pad and cardboard embellies that I bought at Michaels; I drew the bird and cut it out (well, I tried); Daisy Bucket rub on; felt from my stash; pearls from my stash, twill ribbon from Martha Stewart and machine stitching.

2S4U (Kazan's #21); ICS #6

Dwain and I are taking a few days off to have some "just be" days so I won't post again until next week. What are "just be" days? Well, they are special times throughout the year that we set aside for just the two of us. We do fun things from taking a day trip somewhere in our beautiful State to watching DVDs to just reading our recent novels and being quiet. They are times to just relax and "just be" together! Since I am not going to post until next week, I didn't want you to worry about me. I am doing well!

Kazan's sketch at 2S4U for this week is great; I had a hard time sticking with all the components of the sketch, tho. I guess I am one of those students in a class who is always going off and doing their own thing! LOL! Kazan's sketch can be found here!

Patterned Papers: Imaginisce and 3 Bugs in a Rug; Scallop punch: Martha Stewart; Ribbon; Flower: Walmart; Pearl: Kaisercraft; Machine Stitching.

Dawn at Inspirational Card Sketches has another fabulous sketch for this week and a new sponsor with a great prize! Check it out here!

Patterned Papers: DCWV "Nursery;" "Animal Crackers" Journaling Book Tags; Ribbon; Buttons; Rubon: Basic Grey; Machine Stitching.
